The University of Concepción Cultural Corporation and its Symphony Orchestra present “Violeta Parra Sinfónico”, a musical tribute to the most important Chilean artist of the 20th century, in a free concert on Thursday January 11 at 21:30 in the UdeC Forum as a part of the UdeC Summer School, Visual Arts: Display & Encounter.
This concert was originally produced by the Cultural Corporation in 2007 as a part of its Chilean Music Program, a pioneering effort in bringing together the popular language of the singer-songwriter and the symphonic language. This concert is back now with new airs and new voices, framed in the centenary of Violeta Parra’s birth.
“Violeta Parra Sinfónico” will take us in a journey through such iconic songs as Run Run se fue pa’l norte, Qué he sacado con quererte, Casamiento de negros, Maldigo del alto cielo, Rin del angelito, La lavandera, Volver a los 17, La jardinera, Corazón maldito and Gracias a la vida, in music arrangements by Guillermo Rifo and Rodrigo Tapia.
Performing with the Concepción Symphony Orchestra will be the Chilean singers Valeria Gutiérrez and Lucía Chacón, all under the baton of the orchestra’s Resident Conductor, Chilean maestro Pablo Carrasco Villablanca.
