22, 24 & 25 August, 2018

For some years now, August has been the lyric month in our city, and the University of Concepción Cultural Corporation, with its Symphony Orchestra and Choir, has prepared a special gala entitled “Rossini… and something more”, to be performed in three evenings, on Wednesday 22 August at 19:00, and on Friday 24 and Saturday 25 August at 20:00 in the UdeC Theater.

On this occasion, the program will include a collection of pieces, overtures and arias from well-known operas by Italian composer Gioachino Rossini, with three great lyrical singers with outstanding international careers: two Concepción native baritones, Christian Senn and Ricardo Seguel, and the Argentinian mezzosoprano Florencia Machado.

The Concepción Symphony and the UdeC Choir—vocal ensamble prepared by maestro Carlos Traverso—will perform the overtures to “Guillaume Tell” and “L’Italiana in Algeri”, and arias, duos and choruses from “Il barbiere di Sivigia”, “Aureliano in Palmira”, “L’Italiana in Algeri” and “La Cenerentola”, all of them composed by Rossini. The program is completed with a choral version of the quartet “I gondolieri”, also by Rossini, and two fragments from Donizetti’s opera “Don Pasquale”.

This Lyric Gala will be conducted by the Italian maestro Pietro Mianiti, who has built a significant career in his country, where he was the Music Director of the Roma Tre Orchestra. He has also worked in Perú and Portugal.
