Reaching an audience of about 9 thousand people, the University of Concepción Cultural Corporation, closed a successful 2016 offering Christmas concerts in Coronel, Los Ángeles, Santa Juana, Concepción, Chillán and Hualqui.

In this occasion, the Concepción Symphony Orchestra and the UdeC Choir performed “Christmas in Summer”, a title alluding to the typically high temperatures in the Southern hemisphere on that holiday. In spite of that, the audience was transported to the classical postcards of the end of the year through a selection of works from traditional Christmas songbooks, performed by the Concepción Symphony Orchestra and the UdeC Choir with acclaimed Chilean singer José Luis Arce, whose privileged voice reminds of the great performers of the 20th century.

With choral preparation by director Carlos Traverso and music direction by the Chilean maestro Pablo Carrasco, the ensembles performed “Sleigh Ride” (Leroy Anderson), “The Christmas song” (Tormé/Wells), “Let it snow” (Cahn/Styne), “Jingle bells” (James Pierpont), “Burrito orejón” (Traditional), “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” (Gillespie/Coots), “The Little Drummer Boy” (Katherine K. Davis), “Feliz Navidad” (José Feliciano), “En Belén, en Belén” (Vicente Bianchi), “San Pedro trotó cien años” (Rolando Alarcón), “Christmas Is the Time” (Colella/Rawls), “What a Wonderful World” (Weiss/Thiele), “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” (Traditional), and “White Christmas” (Irving Berlin). Most pieces were arrangements by Celso Torres, Guillermo Rifo and Cristóbal Tapia.
