More than 15 thousand people enjoyed the Christmas gift CASCANUECESCASCARRABIAS (“The Nut-cranky-cracker”), a music and dance show produced by the UdeC Cultural Corporation. The play was performed in Laja, Chillán, Los Ángeles, and the UdeC Forum. Nine thousand people attended to the Forum only, a historical audience size for the UdeC Christmas events, which are a tradition in this campus.
The musical story, created by the Symphony musician René Ulloa, got a first-rate performance from the Concepción Symphony Orchestra and the UdeC Choir and Ballet, with actors Julio Olave, Pamela Gómez, Rodrigo Beltrán and Magdalena Varas, and singers Marianne Inzunza and Feliciano Saldías.
CASCANUECESCASCARRABIAS captivated the audience with a story taking place in our region, about a grumpy nutcracker who doesn’t believe in Christmas. The arrival of a Russian doll and a child’s wish radically change the worldview of the crusty character living in an old Toy Shop window.
The story progresses through a grandmother’s narration and the dancers’ performance, all of them directed by Leonardo Iturra. The Concepción Symphony Orchestra, conducted by the Chilean maestro Celso Torres, performed traditional Christmas music and pieces by such composers as Giuseppe Verdi, Leroy Anderson, Ludwig van Beethoven, Piotr Illich Tchaikovsky and Chilean maestro Vicente Bianchi.
For their part, the UdeC Choir, directed by Carlos Traverso, impressed with the always anticipated Christmas songs -‘White Christmas’ and ‘Silent Night’, among others.
