Congreso, the iconic Latin American fusion band from Chile, will present the re-edition of their vinyl disc “Terra Incognita” (“Unknown Land”), one of their landmark albums, in a concert produced by the University of Concepción Cultural Corporation, taking place on Friday 21 October at 20:00 in the UdeC Theater.

Congreso will present the album edited 41 years ago, with songs like “Vuelta y Vuelta”, “Tus Ojitos”, “Y tu dónde estarás” and “Los Maldadosos”. “Terra Incognita”’s gestation began prior to the military coup in 1973. However, due to the strict military controls of the time, the band postponed its launching until 1975, a delay that allowed them to take a turn away from the rock and psychodelia of their first album, and toward a more mature and popular concept, with new compositions that asserted their Latin American music fusion, but also hid poetical messages that eluded censorship and displayed an open discomfort with the social and political situation in the country.

“Terra Incognita” was chosen by Rockaxis magazine as one of the fundamental albums of Chilean music. So, this re-launching will be a unique opportunity to discover the classic creations of Congreso. Moreover, as an advance, the band will premiere some songs from their next album, “La canción que te debía” (“The Song I Owed You”) – the band’s beginnings and currency coming together in one single concert.

Congreso, consisting of Sergio “Tilo” González, Francisco Sazo, Hugo Pirovich, Raúl Aliaga, Federico Faure, Jaime Atenas and Sebastián Almarza, is one of the most relevant ensembles of our country’s musical history. They display independence and identity within the Chilean and Latin American music scene, coming into dialogue with jazz, contemporary classical music, pop and fusion, all of which is reflected in a 47-year long career.
